Yala’s best-known wild bull, named after King Dutugemunu and usually seen in Block 1 and along the Sithulpawwa road. He became famous — and controversial — for walking up to safari jeeps and putting his trunk inside to look for food, a habit encouraged by visitors feeding him. He lost one tusk in a fight with the tuskers Sando and Parakum in February 2018 and the other in a clash with Nandimithra in January 2020. Never feed wild elephants: it teaches them to approach vehicles and people.
